Karen Gibbard (MMus, MA, BMus, dipABRSM) is a professional freelance musician. She has performed in many concerts as a historical oboist, and teaches oboe, recorder and early years music classes. Karen received an MMus in Oboe Performance from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, and an MA in Early Music from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland. She has a current DBS check and is a professional member of the ISM (Incorporated Society of Musicians). Karen has taught for over ten years privately and in various schools for a music service, entering pupils for ABRSM exams if/when appropriate.
Karen is a BSI accredited teacher, having trained with the British Suzuki Institute as one of the first Suzuki Method recorder and SECE (Suzuki Early Childhood Education) teachers in the UK. She is particularly passionate about working with young children and finds the Suzuki Method highly effective in enabling children to reach their potential not only in music but in life as a whole. As Dr. Suzuki said: "It is in our power to educate all the children of the world to become a little better as people, a little happier."
